Our Honest Opinion
There is a host of randomised clinical trials providing scientific evidence that turmeric is effective in treating the symptoms of arthritis. However, more rigorous and larger randomised controlled trials are required to confirm the therapeutic efficacy of turmeric for the treatment of arthritis. There is, however, plenty of evidence that vitamin C is needed for the production of collagen, a major constituent of joint tissue.
Vitamin C is needed for collagen production
Vitamin C has been found to increase the quality of collagen production significantly within the body. It is this collagen that is required for the synthesis of cartilage. Joint conditions such as osteoarthritis are associated with a loss of cartilage tissue.
MSM is also a popular joint health supplement
This formula also contains MSM, a sulphur-containing compounds that has been shown to improve immune function, lower inflammation and help restore healthy bodily tissue. It also occurs naturally in some green vegetables and other food products. It has proved beneficial in treating osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease by helping form connective tissue and repairing joints, tendons and ligaments. It helps decrease joint inflammation, improves flexibility and increases collagen production.
Turmeric reduces pain in osteoarthritis sufferers
A recent study found that curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is as effective in relieving pain in patients suffering with osteoarthritis as the painkiller, ibuprofen, without any of the side effects associated with the drug. Nearly 9 million people currently suffer from osteoarthritis in the UK.
Rosehip alleviates pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis
This formula also contains rosehip, which is high in vitamin C and other anti-inflammatory phytonutrients. Vitamin C helps maintain the health of blood vessels, bones, teeth, skin and cartilage. Research has shown that rosehip may alleviate some of the pain and other symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
